Giorgia Meloni prioritizes stability over alliance with Vannacci

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has signaled a preference for government stability over securing a majority bonus, effectively distancing her administration from potential alliances with Roberto Vannacci and his Futuro Nazionale movement. This decision follows a Senate-approved electoral law that sets a 42 percent threshold for the majority prize.

Members of Futuro Nazionale, including Gianni Alemanno and Laura Ravetto, have urged Meloni to initiate dialogue with them to prevent the center-right from losing ground to the left. Alemanno suggested that Meloni must decide whether to align with the European People's Party or embrace a broader sovereignist movement. Meanwhile, political figures like Maurizio Lupi of Noi Moderati have rejected the idea of expanding the center-right coalition to include Vannacci, arguing that the coalition should not chase new groups to ensure victory.

Internal tensions within the center-right are also evident as Vannacci’s rising popularity reportedly draws votes away from established parties like Lega and Forza Italia. Additionally, Futuro Nazionale has implemented strict social media guidelines for its members to maintain professional credibility during its political ascent.
