Mauro Barreiro wins international patatas bravas competition

Chef Mauro Barreiro of Real Club Valderrama has been crowned the winner of the VII International Patatas Bravas Competition, ‘UnaDeBravas’, held in Palencia. His winning dish, ‘Bravas Colorás’, secured the top position in the prestigious culinary event.

The competition podium was completed by José Luis Martínez from Taberna y Media in Madrid, who took second place with ‘Bravas Tradición’, and Javier García Albuger from Asador de la Concepción in Albacete, who earned third place with his ‘VRAVAS del Asador’. Albuger, a former winner in 2024, was the sole representative from Castilla-La Mancha in the final.

Organized by Palencia Brava at the Hotel Rey Sancho, the contest featured 18 finalists. Since 2020, the event has established itself as a major international reference for the traditional Spanish tapa, evaluating chefs on flavor, technique, viability, and aesthetics through both professional and popular juries.
