Mauro Bordin highlights Friuli reconstruction model in Brussels

Mauro Bordin, President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Council and member of the European Committee of the Regions, discussed the 50th anniversary of the 1976 earthquake during an exhibition in Brussels.

Bordin described the earthquake as a devastating event that destroyed entire towns, but noted that the resilience of the Friulian people created a reconstruction model that serves as a national and international reference for managing emergencies. He emphasized the importance of the “Right to Stay,” ensuring European citizens can remain in their homes.

Following the principle of “first factories, then houses, and then churches,” the reconstruction focused on restoring economic livelihoods to allow displaced residents to return to their communities and cultural roots.
