Mauro Icardi suspended from driving in Buenos Aires
The Ministry of Transport of the Province of Buenos Aires has issued a preventive suspension of footballer Mauro Icardi's driving privileges. The decision follows the viral spread of a social media video posted by his partner, actress Eugenia 'China' Suárez.
In the video, Suárez is seen without a seatbelt and with a significant portion of her body outside the vehicle window while the car is in motion. Authorities characterized the behavior as negligent, noting that Icardi failed to stop the vehicle despite the safety risk posed to the occupants and third parties. Upon investigation, officials discovered that Icardi's Argentine driver's license had been expired since May 2019.
Icardi has publicly contested the measure, claiming he holds a valid Italian license until 2029 and accusing the Ministry of seeking media attention. Under provincial law, to reinstate his driving privileges, Icardi must undergo a psychological evaluation and complete the necessary administrative procedures at his registered domicile in the province.
