Maverick Vinales' MotoGP return remains uncertain
Maverick Vinales faces a “50/50” chance of returning to MotoGP action at the Red Bull Ring in Austria next weekend. KTM motorsport director Pit Beirer stated that the Tech3 rider's availability remains highly uncertain due to a persistent shoulder injury sustained at the Sachsenring in July.
During the summer break, Vinales was diagnosed with a small tear in the infraspinatus muscle. This injury has significantly reduced his arm strength, specifically affecting his ability to perform outside rotation. Beirer noted that while Vinales can maintain position on the bike, he lacks the power required to muscle the motorcycle during rapid changes of direction.
A final decision regarding his participation will be made following a medical review involving his surgeon and physiotherapists. If Vinales is not cleared to race, KTM test rider Pol Espargaro will continue to fill his seat for the final European round of the season.
