Mavis Hawa Koomson elected NPP National Women’s Organiser

Mavis Hawa Koomson has been elected as the National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). During the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, Koomson secured 783 votes, defeating her sole opponent, Hajia Safia Mohammed, who received 429 votes.

Koomson, a former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and former Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, returns to a national leadership role following her loss in the 2024 general elections. In her new capacity, she will lead the NPP’s women’s wing, focusing on mobilizing and coordinating women across the party’s national structures.

Following her victory, Koomson stated her intention to provide experienced and mature leadership, noting that her primary goal is to “unite and build a stronger party capable of winning power again.” The conference included 7,163 delegates from across Ghana to elect a new national executive team for the party.
