Meghalaya football: SPL results and national championship preparations

Recent football developments in Meghalaya include significant results in the Shillong Premier League (SPL) and preparations for national competition. In the SPL, Mawlai maintained their top position after a 2-1 comeback victory against Mylliem, secured by a stoppage-time goal from Lovingstar Suting. Meanwhile, Shillong Lajong ended Nongkseh’s unbeaten streak in SSA competitions, which had lasted since November 2024, with a 1-0 win driven by a Lalmuansanga penalty.

In the SSA Second Division, Tynring and Nongrah both secured 3-2 victories in their respective matches. Tynring defeated Lawsohtun, ending Lawsohtun’s three-match winning streak, while Nongrah edged Lumhsyiap.

On the national stage, the Meghalaya junior boys' football team has departed for Bengaluru to compete in the 2026-27 Dr BC Roy Trophy. The 20-member squad, coached by Playerson Jitem Syiemlieh, is placed in Group C alongside Tamil Nadu, Mizoram, and Maharashtra. Their campaign begins on September 1 against Tamil Nadu.
