Mawlid al-Nabi 2026 holiday and observance guidance

The 2026 Mawlid al-Nabi (Prophet's Birthday) is expected to fall on Wednesday, August 26, based on astronomical calculations. While this marks the official date, the Egyptian Cabinet may decide to postpone the public holiday to Thursday, August 27, to allow for an extended weekend. An official decision is pending the lunar sighting of the month of Rabi' al-Awwal.

For the private sector, the Ministry of Labor will regulate holiday observances according to labor laws. In addition to Mawlid al-Nabi, other remaining public holidays in Egypt for 2026 include Armed Forces Day on October 6.

Regarding religious observance, Dar al-Ifta al-Missriyyah has clarified that celebrating the Prophet's birthday is considered one of the best acts of worship as an expression of love and joy. Recommended ways to celebrate include gathering for praise and hymns, reading the Prophet's biography, feeding the poor, giving charity, and increasing acts of worship such as fasting, prayer, and reading the Quran.
