Mawlid al-Nabi 2026 observed on August 25

The Prophet Muhammad's birthday, Mawlid al-Nabi, is observed on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, corresponding to 12 Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH. According to Dar al-Ifta al-Missriyyah, the Prophet commemorated his birth by fasting on Mondays, noting, “That is a day on which I was born.”

Regarding cultural traditions, the Egyptian Fatwa House stated that exchanging sweets during this period is permissible and encouraged, as it promotes joy among family and kin.

In Egypt, while the religious occasion falls on Tuesday, the official public holiday for government, public, and private sector employees has been moved to Thursday, August 27, 2026, following a government decision to shift mid-week holidays.
