Max Casella reveals growth hormone deficiency delayed puberty

Actor Max Casella, known for his roles in ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘Doogie Howser, M.D.’, has revealed that a growth hormone deficiency nearly derailed his Hollywood career. Casella shared that he did not undergo puberty until the age of 27, requiring medical intervention to address the condition.

The actor described the experience as “insane” and “humiliating,” noting that the physical changes—including shifts in weight and skin—occurred when he was already an established performer. He stated that the transition forced him to essentially rebuild his career from scratch as he navigated the awkward physical changes typically experienced during adolescence.

Casella credited his role as Timon in the original Broadway production of ‘The Lion King’ with helping him transition into adulthood. He is currently starring in the biographical film ‘Jimmy’, which follows the life of Jimmy Stewart.
