Max Holloway dismisses Conor McGregor's injury excuses after UFC 329

Max Holloway has dismissed Conor McGregor’s claims regarding the cause of his injury during their UFC 329 rematch. McGregor, who suffered a torn ACL and meniscus just 69 seconds into the bout, suggested that dry ice and smoke used during walkouts made the octagon floor slippery, leading him to call for the result to be overturned to a ‘no contest’.

Holloway rejected this explanation, stating that he did not experience any slipping issues while in the octagon. Instead, Holloway characterized McGregor as looking ‘slow and old’ and suggested the fighter had passed his prime. Holloway described McGregor’s claims of an impending ‘generational beating’ as ‘delusional,’ noting that McGregor appeared physically diminished from the start of the fight.

McGregor is currently targeting a return in summer 2027 and has expressed interest in a trilogy bout with Holloway. Meanwhile, Holloway remains a top contender in the lightweight division following a knockout victory over Justin Gaethje.
