Max Puig highlights climate adaptation and waste management in Dominican Republic

Max Puig, Executive Vice President of the National Council for Climate Change and Carbon Market (CNCCMC), has emphasized the critical role of journalism in combating disinformation regarding the climate crisis. Speaking at the launch of a specialized course in San Francisco de Macorís, Puig noted that distinguishing facts from opinions is essential for public understanding of multidimensional crises involving economic, energy, and environmental factors.

Puig highlighted the Yuna River Basin Management Plan, a US$270.5 million project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and other sources. The initiative aims to restore ecosystems, protect water resources, and support agricultural sustainability against threats like droughts, floods, and soil degradation.

Additionally, Puig advocated for modernizing solid waste management across the Dominican Republic. He promoted transitioning from open-air landfills to technical systems focused on the circular economy. He visited the Móvil Soluciones Ambientales plant, which processes 600 to 650 tons of waste daily from regions including San Francisco de Macorís, Moca, Tenares, and Samaná, utilizing processes for material recovery and leachate treatment.
