Max Scherzer placed on IL as Blue Jays face pitching void

The Toronto Blue Jays placed veteran right‑hander Max Scherzer on the 15‑day injured list because of right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation. Scherzer, 41, had previously attempted a rehab start with Triple‑A Buffalo, throwing three scoreless innings, 41 pitches and a 93.3 mph fastball while striking out four and walking two.

His injury leaves the Blue Jays' rotation thin. Toronto now leans on Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios and Chris Bassitt, with the bullpen expected to shoulder additional innings. The team may need to explore the trade market for starting pitching if Scherzer’s recovery is prolonged.
