Max Scherzer surpasses Gaylord Perry on MLB all-time strikeout list

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer surpassed Gaylord Perry on the all-time Major League Baseball strikeout list during a Sunday game against the Seattle Mariners. By recording 10 strikeouts in the contest, Scherzer reached 3,535 career strikeouts, moving into sole possession of ninth place on the all-time list. He currently trails Justin Verlander by 19 strikeouts for eighth place.

Scherzer’s performance included seven shutout innings in a 7-0 victory that completed a three-game series sweep of the Mariners. The win is significant for the Blue Jays' postseason ambitions, keeping them within 1.5 games of the Cleveland Guardians for the final American League Wild Card spot. Blue Jays manager John Schneider noted the veteran's resilience, describing the performance as a ‘time machine’ start following previous struggles with injuries and an elevated ERA.
