Max Verstappen consults on F1 engine regulation changes

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed ongoing discussions with Max Verstappen regarding upcoming changes to power unit regulations. The sport is planning to adjust the engine formula to move away from the current 50-50 hybrid split, aiming for a 58-42 split in favor of the internal combustion engine (ICE) next season, with a potential 60-40 split by 2028.

Verstappen has been a key consultant in this regulatory transition, having previously expressed opposition to the high electrical output of the 2026 engines. Early simulator sessions for the proposed changes have reportedly received positive feedback from drivers.

Domenicali expressed optimism about Verstappen’s long-term future in the sport, noting that while the driver has faced challenges with Red Bull’s recent competitiveness, he remains engaged with the future direction of Formula 1. Any regulatory changes will require agreement between teams, manufacturers, the FIA, and Formula One Management (FOM).
