Max Verstappen praises Monaco run as criticism of 2026 F1 cars continues

During qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix, Max Verstappen and his father Jos highlighted positive aspects of the new 2026 Formula 1 regulation package. Verstappen, who qualified second, said the chassis rules were “not that bad” and welcomed the improved front‑axle visibility, adding that the narrow circuit let drivers use the car “more naturally, with the accelerator fully open.”

Other drivers remained critical. Lewis Hamilton described the cars as “one of the least favourite generations I’ve driven here,” pointing to reduced down‑force, higher tyre pressures and poorer mechanical grip. Fernando Alonso echoed the criticism, noting that the current package will stay unchanged until 2030 and that ongoing discussions about future engine and chassis changes indicate widespread dissatisfaction.

The contrasting views underline the ongoing debate within the paddock over the 2026 technical regulations, with Monaco’s unique layout temporarily masking the issues many drivers have highlighted.
