Max Wieland runs as satirical Lord Mayor candidate in Braunschweig

Max Wieland, a 34-year-old scientific employee and architecture student, has been nominated as a candidate for Lord Mayor of Braunschweig. Wieland describes his candidacy as being largely satirical, noting that approximately 80 percent of his party's activities are intended as satire.

Despite his nomination in November, Wieland expressed that he sees “absolutely no” chance of winning the office or exerting real influence on Braunschweig's politics. His campaign approach includes unconventional methods, such as a video on Instagram where he advocates for more bicycle routes while sitting on a toilet with a beer.
