Maxime Grousset utilizes mental training following foot injury
French swimmer Maxime Grousset is preparing for the European Championships at the Olympic Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis despite a recent injury. Two months prior to the competition, the triple world champion suffered a fractured bone in his left foot during training.
The injury forced him to withdraw from the French Championships and prevented him from training his legs for a month. His coach, Michel Chrétien, noted that the recovery period resulted in joint stiffness in the ankle and muscle loss in the calf and quadriceps.
To compensate for the physical limitations, Grousset utilized mental imagery and meditation techniques to maintain his competitive edge. He stated, "Everything I couldn't do with my legs, I did in my head," as he worked on visualizing his performance while unable to perform standard physical drills.
