Maximilian Krah faces arrest warrant over unpaid legal costs
The Chemnitz District Court has reportedly issued an arrest warrant for AfD Member of Parliament Maximilian Krah. The warrant stems from unpaid legal costs following a lost lawsuit against satirist Jan Böhmermann.
The legal dispute originated from a segment in Böhmermann’s podcast, ‘Fest und Flauschig’, which cited a listener's claim that Krah had ordered 200 bottles of champagne at the Munich Oktoberfest. Krah sued for a violation of his personality rights, arguing the claim suggested ‘grandiosity and a strong need for attention’. The court rejected the claim, noting that Böhmermann had clarified he was merely reading a listener's message and had subsequently corrected the figure to approximately 50 bottles.
While Krah previously paid approximately 5,000 euros via his son's account after enforcement proceedings, an outstanding balance of 296.26 euros remains. Krah reportedly failed to appear for a scheduled appointment to provide an asset disclosure. Legal counsel for Böhmermann, Sebastian Gorski, criticized the AfD politician's failure to meet legal obligations, stating that a member of parliament and trained lawyer should not evade such responsibilities. Authorities are currently reviewing whether to request the lifting of Krah's parliamentary immunity to facilitate enforcement.
