Maximilian Krah criticizes Vučić election defeat as blow to European right

Maximilian Krah, a member of the German Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the Bundestag, described the electoral defeat of Aleksandar Vučić’s list in Serbia as a significant loss for the European right wing. Following Vučić’s admission of defeat, Krah stated on social media that the right must reorganize, noting that current strategies are insufficient to be convincing. He drew parallels between the situation in Serbia and the previous electoral loss of Viktor Orbán in Hungary.

In the Serbian parliamentary elections, the student-led list ‘Studenti pobjeđuju’ (Students Win) secured a decisive lead over the list led by Aleksandar Vučić. According to data from the Republic Electoral Commission, which processed 91.84 percent of polling stations, the student list received 51.71 percent of the votes, while the ‘Aleksandar Vučić - United Serbia’ list received 39.85 percent, a difference of 456,761 votes. Official final results are still pending.

The AfD parliamentary group has previously expressed interests in Serbian political developments, including sending observers to the 2023 elections and requesting that the German government withdraw recognition of Kosovo's independence. Following the recent protests in Serbia, the AfD group suggested the possibility of a ‘color revolution’.
