Maximiliano Cabaleyro acquitted of blocking San Pedro factory

Maximiliano Cabaleyro, a union leader and former councilman from San Nicolás, has been acquitted of all charges related to alleged blockades at the Rey Distribución plant in San Pedro.

Judge Alejandro López of the Criminal Oral Court No. 2 ruled that the actions taken during the protests in early 2021 did not meet the criteria for criminal property disturbance under the Penal Code, as they were part of the exercise of the right to strike. The ruling ordered Cabaleyro's immediate release from house arrest.

Following the verdict, Cabaleyro held a press conference where he characterized his long-term detention as a result of a 'political setup' intended to benefit local political candidates. He further alleged that the testimony provided by the owners of Rey Distribución was untruthful.
