Maximiliano Pullaro rules out presidential bid and addresses economic concerns

Santa Fe Governor Maximiliano Pullaro has clarified his political future, stating he will not run for the presidency of Argentina, citing the violent nature of national political debates. Regarding his current role, Pullaro noted that he has not yet decided whether to seek reelection as governor, emphasizing that he wants to ensure the province continues its current progress and avoids returning to periods of high violence and infrastructure decay.

On economic matters, Pullaro acknowledged that while the national government has achieved macroeconomic stability, there is a lack of attention toward the needs of the interior provinces. He specifically criticized the lack of tax adjustments for the textile and footwear industries, which have faced significant challenges.

In Santa Fe, manufacturing production fell 1% year-on-year in June 2026, with a cumulative decline of 3.7% for the first half of the year. While agro-export sectors like oilseed and dairy milling have provided support, other sectors such as agricultural machinery have seen declines. Pullaro attributed the province's relatively lower job losses to public works and provincial measures, including $230,000 million in subsidized credit lines and energy tax discounts.
