Maximos Charakopoulos calls for national unity in Greece

Maximos Charakopoulos, General Secretary of the New Democracy parliamentary group and MP for Larissa, emphasized the necessity of national unity during commemorations in Galini and Platykampo. The events marked the 83rd anniversary of the execution of 54 patriots by Nazi occupation forces in the Kileler municipality.

Charakopoulos warned against the rising threat of revisionism, noting that such views are being expressed both in Europe and across the Aegean. He stated that while strong military capabilities are essential for deterrence, they lack value without national unity. He also highlighted the importance of teaching local history to younger generations, praising a recent book regarding mass execution sites in the Kileler region produced by local educators and students.
