Maximos Karakopoulos highlights kiwi fruit importance for Greek agriculture

During the 20th Pyrgötos-Aigánis Kiwi Fruit Festival, Maximos Karakopoulos, General Secretary of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group, emphasized the role of kiwi production in the export-oriented growth of Greek agriculture.

Speaking in the Tempi region, Karakopoulos noted that kiwi production provides a solution to the challenges of small and fragmented land holdings in Greece by offering high added value. He highlighted that the quality of kiwi fruit from the Pineios Delta allows local producers to access international markets.

Karakopoulos also mentioned that results from a parliamentary cross-party committee regarding the restructuring of the primary sector will be presented soon. Furthermore, he expressed hope for the successful certification of Pineios Delta kiwi fruit as a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) to officially recognize its quality.
