MAXXI L'Aquila hosts exhibition dedicated to artist Fabio Mauri
MAXXI L'Aquila has launched a new exhibition dedicated to Fabio Mauri, one of the most influential Italian artists of the late 20th century. The exhibition honors the artist on the centenary of his birth and highlights his deep connection to L'Aquila, where he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts for twenty years.
Curated by Maurizio Cattelan and Marta Papini, the showcase explores Mauri's investigations into propaganda, politics, and the relationship between art and power. The exhibition is structured around a chronological section based on Mauri's book, ‘Io sono un’ariano’, followed by thematic rooms focusing on specific works, such as ‘Muro d’Europa’.
Cattelan noted that the exhibition addresses the power of images to shape individual and collective consciousness. The curation aims to reflect on how imagery can be used to both glorify and condemn, a theme central to Mauri's performances and his study of the mechanisms of Nazi-fascist propaganda.
