Maya and OwnBank announce new leadership appointments

Philippine fintech companies Maya and OwnBank have announced key leadership appointments to drive digital growth.

Janos Schwellach has joined Maya as the Director of Data Science and AI. Formerly a Principal Solutions Architect at Amazon Web Services, Schwellach intends to build internal teams and models to leverage Maya’s extensive financial data for credit decisions, fraud detection, and personalization. Maya, which operates a digital bank licensed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, reports a user base of over 35 million.

OwnBank has appointed Don Niño Santos as its new President and CEO. Santos, who previously served as the company’s Chief Risk Officer, brings over 27 years of experience from institutions including Globe Telecom, GCash, and Metrobank. Under his leadership, the technology-enabled rural bank aims to accelerate digital banking expansion and increase financial access for MSMEs and overseas Filipino worker families.
