Maya Ka’an to receive over 10 million pesos for tourism infrastructure

The National Fund for Tourism Promotion (Fonatur) will invest more than 10 million pesos to improve infrastructure in Maya Ka’an, a community tourism destination in the Maya zone of Quintana Roo, Mexico.

According to Andrés Aguilar Becerril, the state's Undersecretary of Tourism, the investment will focus on road and cultural infrastructure. Key projects include the installation of signage for the 'Ruta de la Guerra de Castas' on main roads and at historical sites, as well as the expansion of the 'Caminos Ancestrales' program, similar to the model used in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

These works are expected to be executed through the end of 2026. To streamline project management, agencies such as Conagua and Conanp have joined the Maya Ka’an Destination Management Body. The initiative follows a declaration of public interest in community tourism signed by President Claudia Sheinbaum. While immediate focus is on mobility and signage, medium-term plans are being developed for waste management, energy, and water sanitation.
