Mayawati bars nephews from holding BSP political positions
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has announced a major shift in the party’s organizational structure, barring her nephews, Akash Anand and Ishan Anand, from holding any political positions. Invoking the principles of the party’s founder, Kanshi Ram, Mayawati stated that her brother Anand Kumar’s sons will not be given opportunities to engage in politics within the BSP. However, she indicated that her niece, Kumari Deepika Anand, a law student, could potentially be assigned responsibilities in the future based on her merit.
This decision follows the recent expulsion of Akash Anand from his role as national coordinator. Mayawati accused Anand of acting under the influence of his father-in-law, former MP Ashok Siddharth, rather than using his own judgment. She also addressed rumors regarding her health, clarifying that she is in good health and actively managing party affairs.
The move has sparked significant political debate. Opposition leaders from the Congress and Samajwadi Party have reacted to the succession row, with some suggesting the decision reflects internal insecurity or external political pressure. Meanwhile, Mayawati emphasized a strategy to prioritize youth participation, aiming to increase Gen-Z and Gen-Alpha representation in the party organization to approximately 50% ahead of upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab.
