Akhilesh Yadav launches PDA Rath Yatra in Raebareli

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav launched the ‘PDA Rath Yatra’ from Raebareli, a traditional Congress stronghold, as part of the party’s mobilization for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The campaign focuses on the party’s PDA coalition, representing Backward classes, Dalits, and Minorities.

Yadav’s journey has sparked significant political debate. During his address, he targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming a ‘bulldozer of votes’ would defeat them. He also framed the upcoming contest as ‘Lodhi versus Yogi’. In Raebareli, supporters welcomed him with symbolic displays, including the use of bulldozers decorated with flowers, a direct nod to the BJP’s controversial ‘bulldozer policy’.

The yatra has highlighted growing tensions within the opposition INDIA bloc. While Congress leaders like Ajay Rai stated that political leaders can campaign anywhere, there are visible signs of strain between SP and Congress representatives over leadership and political messaging.

Government ministers and officials have criticized the move. UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and other ministers dismissed the PDA slogan as a ‘jumla’ (empty rhetoric), accusing the SP of attempting to appease specific caste and religious groups for votes. Additionally, posters appearing in Raebareli prior to the yatra criticized Yadav’s past associations and questioned his stance on local infrastructure.
