Mayawati urges local resolution for religious disputes

Mayawati, the national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has called for increased sensitivity regarding religious matters and urged stakeholders to avoid making religious disputes legal battles. In a series of posts on the social media platform X, she emphasized that avoiding commentary on religious texts, practices, and beliefs is in the best interest of the country and its people.

Addressing specific issues such as school uniforms and the wearing of veils, hijabs, or chadors, Mayawati suggested that these matters should be resolved locally through mutual understanding between school management and administration rather than being escalated to courts. She noted that such escalations often provide opportunities for narrow politics.

Describing her party as Ambedkarite, she referenced the secular constitution established by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, which guarantees equal rights and the freedom to live according to religious customs. She stressed the importance of respecting the sanctity of all religions and handling matters related to women's dignity and self-respect with sensitivity.
