Maybrat civilian shooting: Official calls for witness protection

Mamberob Y. Rumakiek, a member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) for Southwest Papua, is calling for state intervention following the alleged shooting of three civilians in the Muara Sungai Aifam area, Aifat Timur District, Maybrat Regency.

Rumakiek is urging the state to provide protection for witnesses and victims through the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) and the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK). He emphasized that such protection is essential to ensure an objective investigation and to allow witnesses to provide testimony safely. Additionally, he stressed the need for legal transparency and psychological rehabilitation for vulnerable groups, including women and children, to address the trauma caused by the incident.
