Apple TV film Mayday achieves record-breaking streaming success

The Apple TV original film ‘Mayday’ has achieved significant streaming success, becoming the platform’s biggest movie premiere. Directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the Cold War-era action comedy stars Ryan Reynolds as a U.S. Navy pilot and Kenneth Branagh as a former KGB agent.

Following its September 4 release, the film topped streaming charts, with Luminate reporting approximately 955.1 million minutes watched in its first week. The production has maintained a position in the global Top 10 for 20 consecutive days.

The story follows a pilot shot down over Russian airspace who is rescued by a disillusioned former KGB agent. The duo must navigate enemy territory to reach the U.S. embassy in Moscow. The film has been noted for its 1980s throwback style, featuring an era-appropriate soundtrack and themes of personal identity.
