Mayo Clinic expands AI testing as Czech hospital pioneers AR brain surgery

The AI tools are evaluated through rigorous clinical‑style trials before broader use, and the effort involves partnerships with technology firms including Microsoft and Scale AI.

In the Czech Republic, neurosurgeons at Hospital České Budějovice performed brain‑drainage procedures using 3D glasses, augmented‑reality overlays and AI‑generated holographic models of patients’ anatomy. The system, developed with collaborators from the Netherlands, projects a real‑time hologram of critical brain structures onto the surgeon’s view, improving accuracy during catheter placement. Both initiatives aim to increase diagnostic speed, procedural precision and overall patient care while maintaining strict safety and data‑protection standards.
