Mayo Clinic experts warn on critical stroke warning signs

Medical experts from the Mayo Clinic emphasize that rapid recognition of stroke symptoms is critical to improving survival rates and reducing the risk of long-term disability. Because brain cells can suffer damage within minutes of a stroke, immediate medical intervention is essential.

A stroke occurs when blood supply to the brain is suddenly interrupted. This can manifest as an ischemic stroke, caused by a blood clot blocking an artery, or a hemorrhagic stroke, caused by a blood vessel rupturing. While the causes and treatments differ, both are medical emergencies requiring urgent care.

Common warning signs include sudden weakness or numbness, particularly on one side of the body, facial numbness, difficulty speaking or understanding language, vision disturbances, dizziness, and loss of balance. Experts warn that even if symptoms appear to improve or disappear temporarily, medical evaluation should not be delayed.
