Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado launches solar‑lit ‘Sendero Seguro’ in Tijuana

Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado supervised the installation of a "Sendero Seguro" lighting corridor near CBTis 237 in the Mariano Matamoros colonia of Tijuana's La Presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez district. The project placed 22 solar‑powered luminaires along a 250‑metre stretch, an investment of 1,194,677 pesos funded by the Fortamun municipal‑strengthening program, and is intended to benefit roughly 22,500 local residents, improving safety for students, women, workers and pedestrians.

The initiative is part of the national Sendero Seguro program promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum to enhance public‑space security through better illumination. Municipal officials accompanying the mayor included Secretary of Urban Development Virginia Vargas González, Secretary of Government Ramón Vázquez Valadez, councilors Arturo Aguirre González and Magaly Ronquillo Palacios, Public Services Director Federico Gómez López, and María del Rocío González López. The city government said it will continue similar projects to improve mobility and public‑space quality.
