Mayor Buratovich trichinosis outbreak under investigation

Health authorities in the Villarino district of Buenos Aires Province are investigating a possible trichinosis outbreak in the town of Mayor Buratovich. More than 20 residents reported symptoms—including fever, intense muscle pain, facial swelling, eye edema and gastrointestinal problems—after consuming artisanal dry sausages made from wild boar meat hunted locally. Blood samples have been collected and sent to the Hospital de Azul laboratory for analysis; no laboratory‑confirmed cases have been announced yet.

Officials have warned the public to avoid sausages and other pork products of unknown origin, to buy only items with proper sanitary labeling, and to have homemade meat tested before consumption. They note that salting, smoking, drying or freezing do not eliminate the Trichinella parasite. The investigation follows similar alerts in the province, where six confirmed cases were identified in General Madariaga and dozens more remain under observation.
