Dominican Republic political leaders rally as 2028 election approaches

Abel Martínez, the presidential hopeful of the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD), has called on Dominicans to unite and remove the Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) from power. He criticized the current government for high living costs, frequent blackouts, insecurity and lack of opportunities, and pledged to manage state resources efficiently, invest in infrastructure, agriculture, education and health.

Within the PRM, local leader Adán Peguero and other officials endorsed President Luis Abinader to assume the party’s presidency, arguing that his leadership will preserve internal unity and keep the party in power ahead of the 2028 elections. Consul Jesús “Chú” Vásquez highlighted José Ignacio Paliza’s pivotal role in the PRM’s two electoral victories and noted that the party’s future presidential candidate will be chosen by its base.
