Mayor Cemil Tugay revives Basmane heritage with 100‑year printing mold

İzmir Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanı Dr. Cemil Tugay visited the Basma Kalıp Deneyim Atölyesi in Basmane, where he used the century‑old wooden “Hayat Ağacı” printing mold to press a traditional pattern onto fabric. He highlighted the importance of preserving the historic designs and announced plans to transfer these motifs onto stone and mosaic installations in public squares and pedestrian areas.

Tugay also revealed that the workshop will expand its activities in September to include training programmes for local women, aiming to revive the traditional hand‑printing craft and support economic participation. The visit also reviewed restoration work intended to convert the historic site into a children’s library.
