Mayor Côme Dunis Resigns in Montargis Over Health Issue

Côme Dunis, a 36‑year‑old former gilet jaune activist, announced his resignation as mayor of Montargis, a town of about 15,000 in the Loiret department of France. He cited a personal health problem that requires his full attention and said he will remain a municipal councillor.

Dunis, who was elected in the March 2026 municipal elections with the Rassemblement National (RN) after winning 34.64% of the vote in the second round, said the council will elect a new mayor in September. RN deputy Thomas Ménagé praised Dunis for his sense of responsibility and wished him strength and courage for the coming months.
