Mayor Flávia Moretti urges Várzea Grande council to approve R$82.5 million budget projects

Mayor Flávia Moretti of Várzea Grande publicly rebuked the municipal chamber over a stalemate on ten budget proposals that together amount to roughly R$82.5 million. She called for swift voting, saying the projects are ready for use and address urgent needs in health (R$36.3 million), public services (R$23 million), fiscal management (R$18 million), environment (R$5 million) and education, sport and leisure (R$0.2 million).

Moretti argued that the executive’s submission of supplementary budget measures is a legal administrative option, not limited by the annual budget law, and that forwarding them to the council enhances transparency and institutional control. She urged the chamber’s president to place the proposals on the agenda, submit them to the relevant committees and bring them to a plenary vote, emphasizing that the constitution, the municipal organic law and fiscal responsibility rules require both branches to fulfill their distinct functions.

The mayor warned that continued disagreements harm the city, and she appealed for an end to the institutional deadlock so Várzea Grande can continue to develop safely and steadily.
