Mayor Gustavo Duque Announces Earthquake Recovery Plan for Chacao

Chacao mayor Gustavo Duque reaffirmed local support for the United States' proposed recovery roadmap, emphasizing its role in restoring the economy and attracting foreign investment. Following a recent double‑earthquake, the municipal administration inspected 3,100 buildings, finding only 30 with structural damage and identifying one property at risk of controlled demolition. Duque said a comprehensive action plan will launch on Monday, prioritising aid for residents over 60 whose homes were damaged, repairing communal areas and rebuilding apartments that suffered total collapse.

The initiative will be carried out by a joint presidential commission and private engineers hired by property owners, aiming to accelerate reconstruction and ensure electoral and democratic safeguards.
