Mayor İrfan Püsküllü's dispute with Hendek Land Registry sparks municipal dig

On 28 July 2026, Hendek Mayor İrfan Püsküllü allegedly had a verbal clash with staff of the local Tapu ve Kadastro (Land Registry) office. Following the dispute, the municipality’s Fen İşleri (Public Works) department deployed machinery to excavate the area in front of the registry building and the adjacent parking entrance.

MHP Sakarya provincial leader Oğuz Alkaş demanded an investigation, stating that if the allegations about officials being assaulted or the building’s entrance being deliberately dug up were true, they would be unacceptable. The Hendek municipality rejected linking the works to the dispute, describing the activity as part of a pre‑planned sidewalk and bus‑stop renewal program coordinated with Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality. Bayındır Memur‑Sen union also called for a transparent probe of the incident. No official inquiry results have been released yet.
