Mayor Karen Bass pledges accountability after Boyle Heights warehouse fire

A fire broke out on June 17 at Lineage Logistics' 500,000‑square‑foot cold‑storage warehouse in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, sending plumes of toxic smoke over the neighborhood and lasting more than a week. Residents complained of strong odors and health concerns, and at a community meeting on July 9 the mayor was booed. Mayor Karen Bass apologized for the city's response, promised additional environmental investigations, and announced a survey of warehouses across Eastside, South Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. She pledged to hold Lineage and any other corporation accountable and pledged support services such as housing assistance, grocery vouchers, air purifiers, and utility‑bill help.

Two days after the blaze began, Yusef Robb, a longtime informal advisor to Mayor Bass, began working as a crisis‑communications consultant for Lineage Logistics. Robb had previously served unpaid as an advisor and spokesperson for Bass during her mayoral campaign and early administration. The arrangement raised questions about potential conflicts of interest as the community demanded accountability from both the company and city officials.
