Mayor Katie Wilson proposes budget to close $175 million deficit
Mayor Katie Wilson has proposed a 2027 budget aimed at addressing a $175 million structural deficit. The plan seeks to close the gap through departmental budget cuts and the elimination of 128 positions, most of which are currently vacant.
Unlike previous administrations, the proposal avoids using one-time funds for ongoing programs. Instead, it relies on the existing JumpStart tax to fund programs previously supported by the general fund, including $65 million in homelessness funding. The budget also eliminates funding for certain projects such as graffiti removal and AI initiatives, while increasing funding for shelters and new public restrooms.
