Mayor Kees van Rooij to step down in Meierijstad

Kees van Rooij has announced he will step down as the mayor of Meierijstad in September 2027. Having served in the role for nine and a half years, Van Rooij stated that he believes it is the right time to pass on leadership before reaching the age of 70.

Van Rooij noted that he wishes to avoid a situation where the search for a successor coincides with municipal elections and the formation of a new local government. He expressed confidence in the municipality's future, describing Meierijstad as financially healthy and well-positioned according to its future vision.
