Brazilian cities launch climate‑response operations for 2026

Curitiba’s municipal "Operação Inverno 2026" has conducted almost 15,000 street approaches since its launch, providing shelters, blankets and assistance to more than 5,800 people without any cold‑related deaths. The operation coordinates dozens of municipal agencies, including the Civil Defence, social services and health departments.

In Taquara, officials carried out extensive sewer‑cleaning in flood‑prone neighborhoods and, on 14 July, established the "Operação Integração 2026". The new command system links the fire brigade, civil defence, military police and public works to improve response to extreme rainfall events, while ongoing drainage works aim to cut flood risk across the city.

Tarauacá began its "Operação Verão" under the "Prefeitura em Ação 2026" program, committing more than R$ 14 million to repave key streets. The first phase uses over 4,000 tonnes of asphalt on the Benjamin Constant corridor, with additional road and rural‑road projects planned throughout the dry season to boost mobility and local commerce.
