Mayor Magdalena Komes launches Lovrenčevo festival in Petrinja
From 30 July to 12 August 2026, Petrinja will host the annual Lovrenčevo program, a two‑week series of commemorative, religious, cultural, sports and entertainment events. The schedule, presented by Mayor Magdalena Komes and tourism director Kristina Suppe, marks the Day of Victory, the Day of Homeland Gratitude, the Day of Liberation, the feast of Saint Lawrence and the town's own holidays. Komes emphasized that the programme aims to unite all generations, offering activities ranging from family-friendly performances to traditional ceremonies.
Komes, one of the youngest HDZ mayors in Croatia, also serves as a member of the national parliament. Since taking office after the 2021 local elections, she has overseen post‑earthquake reconstruction and infrastructure projects in Petrinja. Recent media scrutiny has highlighted a discrepancy in her asset declaration involving inherited properties and a fine imposed for the omission. Nonetheless, she remains a prominent local political figure, advocating for continued cultural identity and tourism development in the town.
