Mayor Mamdani calls for Netanyahu arrest and US ICC membership
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has renewed his demand for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding alleged war crimes. Mamdani, who previously pledged to order the NYPD to arrest Netanyahu if he visited New York, also urged the United States to join the International Criminal Court (ICC) and enforce its issued warrants.
Mamdani characterized the Prime Minister as the “architect of a horrific genocide.” In response to these claims, Netanyahu has criticized the Mayor, stating that “Jews no longer feel safe” in New York. Mamdani dismissed these remarks as an attempt to divert attention from legal responsibilities.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries was asked by CNN if he supported the Mayor’s stance. Jeffries declined to comment directly on the specific foreign policy proposal, noting he had not discussed the matter with Mamdani. Instead, Jeffries emphasized the need to prevent another October 7 attack while also preventing the level of destruction seen in Gaza, stating a need for a path toward “just and lasting peace.”
