Mayor Marco Bonilla launches Chihuahua's Integrated Animal Protection and Environment Center

Chihuahua's mayor, Marco Bonilla, inaugurated the city's new Integrated Animal Protection and Environment Center. The facility will offer free veterinary care, including general consultations, laboratory tests, X‑rays, sterilizations, vaccinations and deworming for low‑income families, and low‑cost services for the broader public. It also houses a permanent adoption office to promote responsible pet ownership.

The project, funded with more than 39.9 million pesos—34 million from the Municipal Socio‑Economic Development Fund and 5.9 million from additional sources—aims to consolidate animal welfare and environmental protection under one roof. Bonilla highlighted the city's recent achievements, such as over 3,300 sterilizations and 12,000 vaccinations in the past year, and called the center a reflection of Chihuahua's commitment to caring for voiceless animals.

Local officials, including Rocío Reza of the Coordination of Environment and Animal Protection, and representatives from animal‑rescue groups, praised the initiative as a significant step toward making animal protection a public policy priority.
