Mayor Marco Bonilla meets Mexican race walkers Alegna González and Ximena Serrano
Mayor Marco Antonio Bonilla Mendoza of Chihuahua received the world‑renowned Mexican race walkers Alegna González and Ximena Serrano after their successful European circuit, where González earned three gold medals and the pair claimed historic first‑ and second‑place finishes.
Bonilla reaffirmed municipal support for the athletes through the "Meta Olímpica CUU" program, launched in November with private‑sector involvement, aiming to guide Chihuahua’s walkers to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The mayor and the municipal Institute of Physical Culture and Sport discussed upcoming high‑altitude training in the Sierra Tarahumara ahead of the Central American and Caribbean Games in July 2026 and the Pan‑American Games the following year. The training group also includes Japanese walkers Nanako Fujii and Ai Oyama.
